About Prismly

Population and housing calculations with the source context kept visible.

What Prismly does

Prismly is an independent educational website for people comparing local population and housing figures. Our four calculators explain population growth, population density, housing vacancy and percentage change. They use figures you supply; they do not import live Census data, rank communities or determine the causes of a local trend.

Start with comparable inputs

A correct calculation can still describe an inconsistent comparison. Before using a tool, check the geographic boundary, reference year, units and definitions for each value. Land area and total area are different denominators. Total housing vacancy and rental availability describe different things. Our guides explain these distinctions with illustrative numbers.

Tools, examples and limitations

The tool directory provides adjustable inputs and explanations of the arithmetic. The guide library covers source checks and interpreting results. Calculations run in your browser. Example figures are demonstrations, not current statistics about a named community. Results do not replace the source dataset, its methodology or any uncertainty information supplied with an estimate.

Content and corrections

The explanatory material was developed with AI-assisted drafting and worked-example arithmetic checks. We do not present it as an expert inspection or an official government assessment. Read our editorial policy for the approach to sources and corrections. If a result appears wrong, send the page URL, non-identifying input values and the expected arithmetic through Contact Prismly.

Privacy and independence

Prismly is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Census Bureau. External references are supplied for context. Public calculators do not require a user account. Website logs and contact messages are separate from calculator arithmetic; our privacy policy explains these categories.
